In the 19th century, Boston directories listed workers by occupation. The skills utilized most often in Boston’s shipyards were broken into three categories: shipwright, ship carpenter, caulker or joiner. Wooden vessels required these skilled artisans. These men would spend hours building beautiful wooden sailing vessels. At Boston Spice, we wanted to pay tribute to these skilled Boston craftsmen, so we called this spice "The Woodsman."
